California Prosecuting Man For Facebook Posts Criticizing Islam

Over the last few decades, progressives have worked very hard to take what might be considered previously unreached demographics in the American population and convert them into loyal members of the Democratic Party.

The latest group of folks that the left seems to have their eyes on are Muslims, a truth that is evident by how willing Democrats and liberals are to bend over backwards to accommodate these individuals and basically turn them into a protected class.

While liberals have no qualms about smashing on Christians, persecuting them for standing up boldly and publicly for their faith — think Jack Phillips and Sweet Cakes by Melissa — they wouldn’t dare dream of putting Islam and its adherents under the microscope, not even for the violent execution of homosexuals in Middle Eastern countries.

Well, it seems California is taking things to a whole new level by actually prosecuting a man for comments he left on the Islamic Center of Southern California’s Facebook page.

Reason has the details:

In September 2016, Mark Feigin posted five insulting comments on the Islamic Center of Southern California’s Facebook page (before he was finally blocked by the ICSC from commenting):

“THE TERROR HIKE … SOUNDS LIKE FUN” (written in response to the Center’s “Sunset Hike” announcement).

“THE MORE MUSLIMS WE ALLOW INTO AMERICA THE MORE TERROR WE WILL SEE.”

“PRACTICING ISLAM CAN SLOW OR EVEN REVERSE THE PROCESS OF HUMAN EVOLUTION.”

“Islam is dangerous – fact: the more muslim savages we allow into america – the more terror we will see -this is a fact which is undeniable.”

California penal code says that these comments are a violation of the law and have led to Feigin being prosecuted by the state:

Every person who, with intent to annoy or harass, makes repeated telephone calls or makes repeated contact by means of an electronic communication device … to another person is … guilty of a misdemeanor. Nothing in this subdivision shall apply to telephone calls or electronic contacts made in good faith or during the ordinary course and scope of business.

The posts, the California AG’s office argues, were “were made with the specific intent to annoy and harass the members of the ICSC,” because Feigin “was not trying to engage in any kind of political discussion but instead trying to vex members of the ICSC with his thoughts about their religion.” The posts are criminal because they constitute “repeated harassment from those who wish to mock and disparage their religion,” and, “[r]ather than attempt to engage in discussion or debate,” are “cruel and pointedly aimed at dismissing an entire religion and those who practice it.”

Aside from such a law being an all out assault on freedom of speech, it also has implications for leftists who like to be vile and nasty on conservative pages such as the NRA page or maybe a Christian page.

Unfortunately, everyone knows these standards are not going to be universally enforced, because the left never hold themselves accountable to their own standards. No, if you’re a conservative page that has nasty remarks on it the same folks in support of this law will simply tell you to stop being a snowflake.

If this man had left those same remarks on a Christian page, the left would be touting him as a hero and doing everything in their power to lift him up as some sort of crusader for justice, fighting the evil Christofascists or something of that nature.

The bottom line is that this kind of legislation is a serious violation of the First Amendment and needs to be struck down before dissenting opinions become punishable crimes all across the country.
