God’s Word teaches from cover to cover that we live in a sinful, broken world, a world where wickedness and evil that staggers the imagination bombards us on a daily basis.
Yet, despite all of the things we see practically every time we get on Facebook or switch on the news, sometimes we’re faced with something so horrific it just shatters your heart into a million pieces.
The story of an 18-year-old boy from California who confessed to molesting more than 50 children is one of those kind of tales. This is equal parts heart wrenching and infuriating.
Joseph Hayden Boston, from Riverside, California, turned himself in over the weekend after he told his mother that he had sexually assaulted two boys, ages eight and four, at a motel.
However, this wasn’t the first time Boston had committed such an atrocious crime, as he went on to admit to investigators he molested more than 50 kids, beginning at age ten. The incidents are spread across three cities in total, the other two being Lakewood and Buena Park, both located in Southern California.
The Daily Wire reports:
The two boys Boston allegedly assaulted on Saturday were staying at the motel with their parents; they were permitted to go into Boston’s room. Railsback commented, “Hours later, the suspect called his own mother stating what he had just done.”
Riverside police issued a statement saying, “Officers interviewed the suspect and he confessed to sexually assaulting the two juvenile victims in his motel room. He also admitted to molesting upwards of 50 children since he was 10 years old in different cities where he had lived.”
Officer Ryan Railsback of Riverside police told KABC-TV, “This is going to affect not only the victims for a long time, but also our detectives and officers involved in this. To hear someone just be very open about what they’ve done, and they’re only 18 themselves.”
This is truly disturbing. What would drive this young man to commit such horrific acts against children? Was he himself abused when he was younger? This kind of evil, carried out by someone so young, just seems so awful it’s hard to fathom.
While we cannot know, as of now, why this young man did these horrible things, what we do know is that God told Cain in Genesis 4:7 that sin was crouching at the door of his heart and desired to have him, and that same verse is true for us as well.
Jesus died for the worst of the worst, and that includes people like Boston. Yes, the young man deserves to be punished to the fullest extent of the law, but that doesn’t mean we can’t pray for him to hear the gospel and repent.
On another note, one has to wonder if the rampant sexual immorality that has infected our culture, along with the acceptance of homosexuality as normal practice has played a role in helping to foster acts of this nature.
It certainly seems logical to assume that these kind of acts are encouraged by our culture’s growing tolerance for pedophilia as well, something that is becoming more aggressively pushed by leftists in the media.
Unfortunately, this is all to be expected when your culture not only abandons it’s biblical roots, but completely abhors the God of the universe and worships self, the created thing, rather than the Creator Himself.
