Although by many accounts Kevin Spacey’s homosexuality and interest in younger men has been known in Hollywood for some time, due to recent public allegations made against him, many are distancing themselves from the Academy Award-winning actor.
Ever since Anthony Rapp shared with BuzzFeed News that a drunk, 26-year-old Spacey tried to force himself on the actor when he was just 14-years-old and Spacey tried to cover it up by emotionally coming out when everyone knew he was gay already, more of his alleged victims have come forward.
Since Rapp shared his account of Spacey’s sexual advances on him, more men, mostly young men, have come forward to share their stories, including, most recently, a man who claims Spacey bought him drink after drink before groping his genitals when the young man in question was only 18-years-old.
Given that Hollywood has a track record of covering up for pedophiles, however, entertainment media is still reeling from the news that Spacey will now be cut from a movie that was set to be released next month.
Consider how drastic that is–the entire movie has already been filmed and likely gone through most of the production process, and yet they are cutting him out completely and re-filming his character’s scenes with another actor.
Fox News reports that the film, “All the Money in the World,” originally starred Spacey as J. Paul Getty, and centers around the famous kidnapping of Getty’s grandson in 1973.
Christopher Plummer will be replacing Spacey as Getty, in a decision that received a “unified front” of support from the cast and crew, including Spacey’s former co-stars Michelle Williams and Mark Wahlberg.
Spacey has also been cut from the Netflix smash hit, “House of Cards,” in which Spacey played the main character.
It is certainly good to see Spacey face repercussions for his disgusting behavior, but it’s hard not to be cynical that this is simply too little too late from an industry rife with sexual misconduct and abuse.
Hopefully, he will face legal repercussions soon as well!
