City Council Bans Pro-Life Speech Outside Mississippi’s Last Abortion Clinic

Pro-abortion policymakers in Jackson, Mississippi have officially ensured that patrons of the state’s only abortion clinic can proceed with having their unborn children murdered without being bothered by pro-life groups offering support and pleading with them to reconsider.

Earlier this month, the Jackson City Council voted Tuesday to approve an ordinance banning pro-life activists from protesting or witnessing to mothers and clinic workers at the Jackson Women’s Health abortion mill.

The ordinance, which passed by a 3-1 vote, forbids picketing within fifteen feet of a facility, coming within eight feet of people entering or exiting the building, and erecting speaker systems within 100 feet, according to The Clarion Ledger. Violators face fines of up to $1,000 and up to 90 days in jail.

Not only is the city council going above and beyond to ensure that babies can continue to be murdered in the so-called “women’s health” clinic, but their ordinance also represents a blatant disregard for the First Amendment rights of its citizens to exercise free speech and peaceable assembly.

The state’s Agriculture and Commerce commissioner, Andy Gipson, a Republican, expressed his disappointment in the city council’s eagerness to so readily limit constitutional rights in favor of the pro-abortion agenda:

The abortion center, located in Jackson’s Fondren neighborhood, has been at the center of controversy more than once over the last few years. Notable incidents include an alleged failure to report chemical abortions according to state law and  the shocking birth of a baby in the facility to a woman there for an abortion consultation, which raised questions as to exactly how far into a women’s pregnancy the clinic will perform the abortion in a state with a  ban on abortions after 20 weeks gestation.

“Proponents of the regulation have cited noise complaints and the potential for heightened conflict as the reasoning behind the legislation,” the Mississippi Center for Public Policy (MCPP) said of the decision. “However, opponents of the regulation have noted that the noise is often escalated by the abortion center who will turn up music while sidewalk participants attempt to speak with those around the abortion center and that the regulation curtails their free speech rights.”

“At the end of the day, the abortion center can paint itself bright pink colors, play music, and attempt to be a part of the more hip, growing Fondren community, but it can’t cover up what happens inside its walls, a continued dark stain on the neighborhood and the city,” MCPP boldly stated.

If you want to know which views most threaten the establishment, look at the views they are desperate to silence.

Even in a state with only one abortion clinic yet, they need to forcefully silence pro-life activists just to keep this house of death safe from the truth.

Our elected officials not only shirk their responsibility to protect all of their citizens, they actively work to protect those who are slaughtering babies!

Let’s pray for the pro-life community in Jackson to be encouraged and strengthened in the face of this targeted attack on their liberties as they work to protect the right to life for all Jackson’s children.
