After doctors discovered cervical cancer in her body, Katie Hanson was encouraged to abort her pregnancy for the sake of both her and her child.
According to Faith Wire, Hanson, 23, refused and ultimately gave birth to little Willow Rae Porter – a baby that continues to survive and smile despite the fact that she has inclusive cell (i-cell) disease, a one-in-a-million cellular condition that affects every aspect of her life, from breathing to digestion and bone structure.
Willow is currently 22 months and, despite doctors stating she would never become verbal, has developed the ability to say words like “momma” and “yeah.”
She also appears to be incredibly happy and playful.

“We’re trying to make as many memories with her as we possibly can, as the memories someday will be all we have left,” Faith Wire quotes Hanson as stating, in reference to doctors’ belief that Willow’s condition will kill her within a year.
“My main focus is taking things one day at a time and I’m thankful for each and every second we get with her, we’re living a life without regrets and not taking things for granted.”
A Facebook page Hanson has started for Willow shows the pair doing just that.

One can’t help but admire the bravery and maturity with which Hanson is approaching her situation.
Caring for a child is no walk in the park, much less so caring for a child with an incredibly rare condition.
Given the current state of our world, Hanson could have easily had an abortion and walked away from the responsibility of caring for Willow.
No one would have batted an eyelash should she have chosen to take that path – she would have just become one of the many thousands of women who have abortions daily.
But Hanson didn’t take the easy way out – and one can only imagine God will reward her greatly for that.
Please continue to pray for Hanson and Willow, that God might work a miracle in their lives if it is his will.
If not, please pray that God will continue to provide Hanson the strength and wisdom to deal with the outcome with as much courage and level-headedness as she is now.
