NC Legislators Working To Overturn Gay Marriage: “Tell It To Satan!”

It has been four years since the Obergefell v. Hodges ruling redefined the institution of marriage in United States law, granting the title agreed upon for millennia as the union between one man and one woman to homosexual couples.

In that time, we have seen society shoot down the slippery slope we were mocked for foretelling to the point where a legal and valid marriage could take place between two men who identify as women, two women who identify as men, a man and a woman who identify as ballpoint pens—the insane combinations are endless.

The decision to prohibit states from determining their own rules for what constitutes a legal marriage has resulted in a sexual revolution of catastrophic proportions.

In North Carolina, however, a few legislators are looking to turn the tide.

Newsweek reports:

Introduced in the state assembly in February, HB 65, the Marriage Reaffirmation Amendment Act, would revive North Carolina’s ban on same-sex marriage, approved by voters in 2012, and render Obergefell null and void and unenforceable. The measure would also prohibit civil unions and domestic partnerships for same-sex couples.

The bill also includes language that defines same-sex unions as “parody marriage” and claims “self-asserted sex-based identity narratives and sexual orientations that do not follow the scientifically obvious biology of the human species are inseparably part of the religion of Secular Humanism.”

Although sharply leftist Newsweek declares that it has “virtually no chance of success” due largely in part to Democrat Governor Roy Cooper’s opposition to the bill, its sponsors aren’t giving up without a fight, and a fierce one at that.

According to the Friendly Atheist, Hemant Mehta (a longtime critic of the Activist Mommy) a reader identified as “Leo” wanted to take Reps. Larry Pittman and Michael Speciale, two of the bill’s authors, to the woodshed over their “pandering” to evangelicals:

I am just writing to remind you that the people of NC have still not forgotten your ignorant and unconstitutional pandering to the “old fashioned” intolerant evangelicals.

America was founded on freedoms and personal liberty. If two people want to get married, then the government should not be getting involved in this as they are not the purveyors of morality. Two people getting married in no way affects me or my life and nor does it affect yours. The fact you have to keep yourself relevant by way of pandering to intolerant old people who think the bible should be the law of the land is shameful.

Much to the surprise of Leo and the “Friendly Atheist,” both Pittman and Speciale responded to Leo’s hateful email.

“I have not forgotten that 61% of the voters in this State voted for the [2012] Marriage Amendment, 69% in Cabarrus County, and 65% in the district which I represented at the time,” Rep. Pittman wrote back. “I have not forgotten that the NC Republican Party Platform calls on us to uphold the Marriage amendment. I have not forgotten that God is perfect, and therefore has no need to ‘change with the times,’ and is, therefore, not ‘old fashioned,’ nor is His Word.”

“If you have a complaint about that,” he added, “tell it to Satan when you see him.”

In a somewhat more thorough rebuttal to Leo’s email, Rep. Speciale reportedly had this to say:

I am glad that you and others remember. I am proud to stand for God, Country and Family. Family is what happens when a man marries a woman and they have children.

America was founded on Judeo/Christian principles, stamped firmly in the Word of God. This isn’t about religion, this is about what is right.

North Carolinians overwhelmingly voted to preserve the Marriage Union as one man and one woman only, and no others. The Supreme Court got it wrong by inserting their liberal desires ahead of the job they were appointed to do.

Nowhere in the Constitution does it give the federal government any authority over marriage, and if homosexual marriages were intended by the founders, they would have existed at that time.

I don’t care what your belief system is, you cannot legitimately argue that the US Constitution allows for homosexual unions (they are in no way marriages, regardless of what the government says).

I don’t pander to anyone, and your ignorance of the Constitution is evident. You seem to have no problem perverting the Constitution to serve your own interests, but I am here to protect the liberties and freedoms of all citizens, and that includes not legitimizing every perverted act that people may decide to enter into.

Amen!!

Our Founding Fathers could never in a million years have imagined the sort of debauchery and immorality not only tolerated but embraced by the government they worked so hard to construct.

These stalwart defenders of sense and liberty deserve our support! Reach out to Rep. Speciale and Rep. Pittman and thank them for their integrity and diligence!
