One of President Trump’s early promises is making a lot of progress toward completion and it has a lot of folks very, very happy.
Trump promised earlier this year to formerly recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and today, that’s precisely what he did during a press conference.
This has some far reaching foreign policy implications and will no doubt greatly anger Palestine and many other Muslim-majority countries in the near vicinity, but the truth of the matter is, Jerusalem is the rightful capital of the Jewish people and it’s only fair that be officially recognized. They aren’t considered God’s chosen people for nothing, you know.
Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel, President of Christians in Defense of Israel, and Founder and Chairman of Covenant Journey, said “President Trump’s affirmation that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel represents a significant and long overdue shift in U.S. policy.”
Liberty Counsel is reporting:
In every country worldwide, the U.S. respects the choice of the nation state and locates its embassy in the capital. However, the embassy in Israel is in Tel Aviv, despite the fact that Israel designates Jerusalem as its capital and despite the fact that Congress voted to move the embassy to Jerusalem. The Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995 passed the Senate by 93-5 and the House by 374-37 to move the U.S. Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem by requiring the withholding of State Department funds if was not moved. However, the law was never implemented because of opposition from former Presidents Clinton, Bush and Obama.
President Donald Trump has promised to move the embassy to Jerusalem. “President Trump’s affirmation of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel is a welcome step in the right direction. Moving the U.S Embassy to Jerusalem is a recognition of established facts. Jerusalem has only been the capital of one nation and that nation is Israel,” said Staver.
Here’s a clip of the president discussing this shift in policy:
The city of Jerusalem was founded 3,000 years ago as the capital of Israel by King David, and the Jewish people who rightfully belong in their home country have endured a lot of persecution over the centuries from pagans originally and now from the Muslims who occupy large portions of the land surrounding the nation.
Palestinian Muslims believe the Jews to be an occupying force, colonials attempting to steal away their land, refusing to recognize Israel’s claim on the territory. This has caused many, many skirmishes over the years as the Palestinians ruthlessly launch missiles into Israel on a regular basis.
These individuals routinely sneak into the country with the sole purpose being to stab and terrorize the Jews living close to the border.
Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro, himself a Jew, spoke on this new development and what he had to say makes a whole lot of sense:
As this transition takes place, it’s critical that we as a nation be on guard against backlash from Muslim nations who will no doubt be furious we have backed Israel in this matter.
Iran, Palestine, and other countries in the Middle East will no doubt consider military action against them, and as our oldest and greatest ally in the nation, we must continue to stand by their side.
Hopefully this move will be completed soon and without incident for us and for the people of Israel!
