Satanic Temple Threatening to Sue Mississippi for Replacing Confederate Flag With “In God We Trust” On State Flag

There’s just no pleasing anyone in 2020.

The State of Mississippi recently voted to replace the Confederate Flag portion of their state flag with the words “In God We Trust” amid a national push to remove Confederate statues and imagery from public spaces.

Rather than resorting to lawless mobs, however, Mississippi opted to use the peaceful democratic process and vote to place the words “In God We Trust” in place of the old rebel flag.

This, of course, then triggered the Satanic Temple…because the flag doesn’t mention Satan.

No, really.

Breitbart reports that, in a letter to Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch, the attorney for the Satanic Temple, Marc J. Randazza, declared that the plan for the new flag amounts to “removing one divisive symbol of exclusion only to replace it with a divisive phrase of exclusion.”

This plan “does not eliminate exclusion, but rather moves it from one group to a collection of others.”

Randazza continued that the Satanic Temple “would like to suggest that if Mississippi is going to place a religious phrase on its flag, it should include reference to Satan.”

The attorney goes on to detail the “seven tenets of the Satanic Temple” which suggests that they are “more consistent with Mississippi values than even the Ten Commandments.”

Interestingly, the third tenent is that “One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone,” something which stands in direct violation of the Satanic Temple’s own efforts to promote abortion on demand.

“[W]e can imagine that there would be some Mississippians who would be a bit put off by the words ‘In Satan we Trust’ on the state flag,” the letter continues. “We trust that you will take our request under advisement. However, should the state of Mississippi insist on placing this exclusionary religious phrase on its flag, we do intend to file suit and seek injunctive relief against this act.”

One has to wonder if they oppose the phrase “In God We Trust” so much that they abstain from using legal US tender. What do you think?
