You may have caught wind in the last few months of a new bill in California may make it a criminal offense to call someone by the wrong gender pronoun. And by “wrong”, I mean, the right one.
At this point in time, oddly, the law only applies to nursing home staff. But it certainly sets a fascistic and terrifying president–how soon will it be before it is applied to other settings?
Senate Bill 219, or the LGBT Senior Bill Of Rights,“…would make it unlawful, except as specified, for any long-term care facility to take specified actions wholly or partially on the basis of a person’s actual or perceived sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) status, including, among others, willfully and repeatedly failing to use a resident’s preferred name or pronouns after being clearly informed of the preferred name or pronouns”
Senator Scoot Wiener, who authored the Bill, argues that this bizarrely strict law would apply to even those who don’t believe in a man can become a woman, i.e. have religious views that acknowledge basic biological realities.
“Everyone is entitled to their religious view,” he said, according to The Daily Caller. “But when you enter the public space, when you are running an institution, you are in a workplace, you are in a civil setting, and you have to follow the law.”
Wiener released a statement explaining why the legislature went to such great lengths to protect LGBT seniors’ feelings with the threat of jail time for improper pronoun usage:
“Our LGBT seniors built the modern LGBT community and led the fight for so many of the rights our community takes for granted today. It is our duty to make sure they can age with the dignity and respect they deserve,” Wiener wrote. “I want to thank Governor Brown for joining our coalition in supporting this bill, which will make a real difference in people’s lives. The LGBT Senior Bill of Rights is an important step in our fight to ensure all people are treated equally regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.”
This is what conservatives have been warning about for years. When we live in a world that is so committed to participating in someone else’s mental delusions that we criminalize using the wrong pronoun to describe them, political correctness has officially gone way too far.
Not to mention, these days, there are so many different made-up gender identities and people claiming to be “gender fluid”, so what if you happen to call someone by the wrong pronoun on the wrong day? Not to mention if this applies to nursing homes, isn’t there a good chance you risk being accused of using the wrong pronoun by someone with dementia?
This is a very, very slippery slope, and it’s hard to imagine that isn’t exactly what the left wants.
