Few movements have done more to expose the vast hypocrisy among leftists than the #MeToo movement.
Over the last few years as wealthy and powerful progressives have been outed for their highly inappropriate, downright predatory, or even heinously violent treatment of women it has become abundantly apparent that when it comes to standards of the way men should behave towards women, the goalposts are moved at an alarming frequency.
Picture this scenario: a GOP state senator in a southern state, once jailed for sleeping with his teenage staffer, runs for and wins back his state senate seat.
We don’t have to imagine the media response. We know exactly what it would be. Just look back to the treatment of Judge Roy Moore, who was alleged to have behaved in a very inappropriate way towards teenage girls decades before when he was in his 30’s just weeks before his election for Alabama’s US State Senate seat. There was a CAT-5 #MeToo media meltdown!
Meanwhile, when a Democrat who slept with his 17-year-old secretary when he was in his 50’s runs for a state senate office and wins, the Democrats don’t blink an eye.
The Daily Wire reports:
Morrissey, now 61, was in his 50’s when he was accused of having sex with his 17-year-old secretary, to whom he is now married. He claimed he did nothing wrong, but pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor in 2015 while admitting there was enough evidence to convict him. (This often happens to innocent and guilty defendants alike, they plead to a lesser crime to avoid worse consequences in front of a jury for a larger crime.) The girl and her mother also denied anything untoward was happening between the two, though he was initially indicted on charges of possessing and distributing child pornography (he had, according to prosecutors, a nude photograph of the girl and had sent it to a friend) and the electronic solicitation of a minor.
Morrissey spent six months in jail for “contributing to the delinquency of a minor” but continued to serve as a state legislator while in prison.
Morrissey had resigned as a legislator but won it back in a special election. He sailed to victory in a primary for state Senate earlier this year, defeating incumbent state Sen. Rosalyn Dance by 14 points.
Now Morrissey has won that state senate seat. Morrissey received nearly 64% of the vote, facing Independent Waylin Ross, who received 36% of the vote. Republicans didn’t even offer a candidate in the race.
We will give the man props for marrying the young woman, at the very least, but it is nonetheless objectively incredibly inappropriate for him to have pursued the relationship in the first place.
It also doesn’t explain the hypocrisy on the left for entirely ignoring the fact that he seduced his teenaged secretary, when he was middle-aged while serving in office, and served time for it in light of their claims to having the higher ground when it comes to sexual morality.
If this was a GOP candidate he would most certainly be considered a sexual predator by the left, we’d never hear the end of it.
Speaking of the GOP, they’ve got to do better than this. They didn’t even bother putting a candidate forward, as the Daily Wire noted. It doesn’t matter how much of an uphill battle our conservative politicians have to fight, we have to demand leaders who are willing to fight them.
The left have had control of the narrative on sexual morality for far too long, and look where it’s gotten them. Wielding accusations of sexual impropriety or crime like a weapon while completely ignoring the brazen immorality in their own ranks for the sake of staying loyal to their party.
It’s time to take back the narrative, the culture, and the definition of right and wrong.
